Kayla DiVenere - Final Girl | Music Video of the Week

Kayla DiVenere’s ‘Final Girl’ takes the slasher playbook and rewrites it with a knowing smile and a sharpened blade. What begins in a fog-drenched forest, where light fractures through the trees in uneasy slivers, quickly establishes a world that feels less like a setting and more like a state of mind: tense, elusive, and always in motion.
Directed by Maddy Murden, with cinematography by Kalama Epstein, the video moves with a quiet confidence through shadowed woodland paths, dim interiors, and surreal, almost dreamlike spaces. There is a precision to the way it balances dread and wit, never surrendering to excess, never asking too loudly to be admired. Instead, it invites you in, then subtly shifts the ground beneath your feet.
‘Final Girl’ earns this week’s spotlight not just for its inventive play on genre, but for the control of its rhythm, the intelligence of its visual language, and Kayla DiVenere’s performance at its centre, which reclaims a familiar archetype and reshapes it into something distinctly her own.
