Sean Leon’s “Gravity”, directed by Jorden Lee, places Sean among family and friends while making clear that company is not the same as presence. The absence at the centre of the film is never personified. It is felt in his stillness.
Director Jorden Lee gradually allows reality to loosen its rules around him. The levitation is the video’s most elaborate image, but it works because it is treated less as spectacle than as an extension of his state of mind.
“Gravity” understands that grief does not always look like collapse. The video gives distance a physical form, turning gravity into something less about what holds us to the earth than what keeps us attached to someone who is gone.
