Dizzee Rascal’s “Foxtrot Oscar” begins with the kind of situation only a music video could take seriously: burglars have broken in to steal a portrait of Dizzee. Directed by Romain Chassaing, the video answers that intrusion with a brilliant idea. Dizzee opens fire, and every bullet produces a miniature flying version of himself.
From there, the joke keeps finding new places to go. Mini Dizzees tear through pubs, alleyways and museums as a stylised London gradually becomes overrun by the artist’s own image.
What makes “Foxtrot Oscar” work is that its spectacle grows out of one wonderful premise. By the end, Dizzee Rascal is not merely the star of his own video. He has multiplied until there is barely room for anyone else.
